What do you look at?

Ostriches are amazing flightless birds that have been clocked as running 43 MPH. They have some quirks, one leading to the idiom bury your head in the sand (which means to ignore or hide from obvious signs of danger). It alludes to an ostrich, which is believed (incorrectly) to hide it’s head in a hole in the ground when it sees danger. Actually, when lying down and hiding from predators, the birds lay their heads and necks flat on the ground, making them appear like a mound of earth from a distance, aided by the heat haze in their hot, dry habitat. This defensive behavior of lying low makes them appear from a distance to have their head buried.

As I soaked in the tub, I was reading a fiction historical novel, by a Christian author, about the times just before, and during JESUS CHRIST’s life. I love to read, and the author had a neat style but graphic details triggered thoughts that were not good. So, I gave those thoughts to GOD, shut the book and later took it back to the library.  It is too easy to think about what we should not think of.

I opened an email from a dear, dear friend and it contained slurs about people, that although may be true, at least in part, it directed my thoughts to judging.  Thoughts I should not have.  Judging with only partial facts is just too easy to do but totally forbidden and must be guarded against. So, I deleted the email.

The Bible is jam packed with injunctions I might want to ignore.  But although GOD’s thoughts and ways are not ours (Isaiah 55:8-9) they work because HE is always right.  Therefore, if I want to do right I need to pay attention to what the Word of GOD says and act accordingly.

JESUS said, “Man cannot live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of GOD” (Matthew 4:4).

Some call me closed minded, saying I bury my head in the sand and don’t know the times because I choose to use the Bible as my standard. It is not always easy, it is not always comfortable, but I’ve learned through the years of falling on my face by doing things my own way, that the LORD’s way is best.  HE made the world and everything in it, therefore HE knows how things work plus HE knows all things past, present and even future so know what I need to look for.  That makes HIM the only ONE qualified to give me instructions.

GOD honored my shutting that book, and deleting that email, by confirming my choices as I opened the Bible and read HIS words.

“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore your eye be single (looking at the right things), your whole body shall be full of light (and you will understand what to do).  But if your eye be evil (you look at and think about wrong), your whole body shall be full of darkness (and you will stumble and fall). If therefore the light that is in you (that which you think is right) be darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6:22-23).

“And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of GOD” (Romans 12:2).

Why is that so important?

Wherein in time past, (before you were saved and knew better) you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the (evil) spirit (the devil) that now works in the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2).

There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12).  Remember, Eve in the garden.

Just a little bit of human standard defilement brings in darkness.  It clouds things so much that it can throw off my perspective to the degree that I don’t know the right way to go. That is what has happened in our country for now right is called wrong and wrong is called right.

It is so important what we focus on is.  Where do you find the answers?

Looking unto JESUS the Author and Perfecter of my faith

Walk in the light

We are told to walk in the light we have and then GOD will give us more light.

I love these mornings I can be outside for my time with the LORD. The sun is too bright when it rises to sit on my porch swing so I go out back and sit. i have had to turn my chair to the south so I am facing the peaceful green of trees, lawn and bushes and not the blaring white garage.

The whiteness reflecting the brightness of the sun blinds me when I face the garage so i can’t see to read and reminds me of the pictures of GOD on HIS throne Who lives in the light that no one human in this fleshly body can approach that we see in Revelation 4:3-5, Ezekiel 1:4, and even the burning bush where Moses was told not to come near.(Exodus 3:5).

“Who only hath immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power eternal. Amen.”(1 Timothy 6:16).

Although in this life we cannot see GOD and live, we are told not to walk in darkness of sin but to walk in the light of truth as HE is in the light (1 John 1:6-7) and then we can really have fellowship…

So although I must face the peaceful green of the lawn and trees, each morning I seek HIS face in the Word of GOD by learning more what HE is like and what I am to be like.

Will you join me?

The light of the world

Hunting for the perfect gift? The greatest gift of all was when GOD sent HIS only begotten SON into the world that whosoever believes in JESUS (GOD the SON) will not perish but have everlasting life (see John 3:16).

Yesterday Mac and I put up the nativities. I did the ones inside, but Mac put up the one he made outside and rigged up a light to shine on the manger so the cars passing by would be attracted to the light and think of JESUS.

This morning as I look around its feeling a lot like Christmas. Christmas is all about JESUS, who made the heavens and earth and came into the world to reconcile us to GOD (Matthew 1:21).  HE came as a baby and physically made like us in all ways, so we could know HE really understands whatever we are going through so is able to help us in any situation (Hebrews 4:14-16).

We are not celebrating HIS birthday per se but that JESUS was born as a man and lived among us. Plus any opportunity to speak of Jesus is a time of celebration. Christmas is a time when many are more open to hear of Jesus. The beginning of our salvation was when He lay aside His glory and took on humanness. It was part of it all for without a human body Jesus could not have died on the cross for your sins and mine. I celebrate God’s love and His sacrifice at the beginning when He lay aside His glory He brought light into the world 🌎 and again 33 or so years later when on the cross He paid for our sins and disarmed the principalities and powers.

Light lit up the sky as HIS birth was announced by angels (Luke 2:8-10) and also was declared to others far away by a bright star which led seekers to find HIM (Matthew 2:2).

Now GOD is light in HIM is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5).JESUS is the light of the world and is the exact representation of GOD the FATHER and the HOLY SPIRIT (Hebrews 1:2-3). JESUS brings light to everyone that is born into the world (John 1:7, 9) and all who choose to reach out and grasp that light by believing in JESUS are born into GOD’s family (John 1:12) and given eternal life (John 3:16).

If we say we have fellowship with HIM while we walk in the darkness (doing things the world’s way) we lie and do not practice the truth.  But if we walk in the light (the truth we have been shown) we have fellowship with GOD and each other (1 John 1:6-7).

It is extremely important for we who confess JESUS as our Savior to walk in the light. As long as JESUS was in the world, HE was the light of the world (John 9:5) as HE represented GOD the FATHER.  Now we represent GOD and unbelievers judge GOD by our actions.  Before JESUS went back up into heaven to sit at the right hand of GOD the FATHER, JESUS delegated the responsibility to be the light of the world to HIS followers (Acts 1:8,Matthew 5:14).

The world lies in darkness, behind its philosophy, attitudes and standards aren’t men but the one who influenced them, the prince of the power of the air.  We too were once controlled by his values (Ephesians 2:1-3, 1 John 5:19) but have been set free by coming to the light of the truth.

Are you, am I, doing what that child’s song says? “This little light of mine I’m going to let it shine, this little light of mine I’m going to let it shine let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.  Let it shine wherever I go, I’m going to let it shine…”

Now, may the LORD guide you with HIS peace(Colossians 3:15), strengthen you with HIS joy (Nehemiah 8:10) and enable you with HIS grace (Hebrews 4:16).  Keep looking unto JESUS (Hebrews 12:2) and talk over your thoughts with HIM (2 Corinthians 10:5) it really works.
