I double dare you

JESUS says: “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of GOD (Matthew 4:4).

I was at my wits end and just didn’t know what to do. It was back in the early 90’s with 2 teenagers living at home and acting up, my husband was working out of state as he often did, plus I worked full time at the Space Center. There just didn’t seem like there were enough hours in the day. By dark I was so exhausted I couldn’t concentrate!

My schedule shoved out extended times in the Word of GOD. But as the problems grew and the weight of not knowing what to do bore heavily on me early one morning as I was getting ready for work I cried out to GOD… “Just give me a word, just a word I need to hear from YOU!”

I glanced over and there was my Bible lying open on the table. I stopped and just read 2 verses, that is all I had time for, and then I rushed off to work.

“Looking to JESUS the Author and Finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before HIM (our salvation) endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of GOD. For consider HIM that endured such contradiction of sinners against HIMSELF unless you become weary and faint in your minds (Hebrews 12:2-3).

As I drove to work I considered JESUS and as I thought about JESUS and what HE endured I was strengthened. Over and over throughout the day those words came back into my mind settling me, encouraging me.

Today, my children are grown but what with teaching 3 Bible classes and writing the curriculum and blogs, answering questions I have very little free time. But GOD still speaks to me through the verses I read in the morning before my day begins, or when I stop to read a verse or two.

Whether I have 5 minutes or 3 hours, there is something in the words of GOD that come back to me throughout the day. As I consider those words I am refreshed, insight comes and often I’ll share them with you.

There was a gal this morning who during the table talk at the Women’s breakfast, mentioned she felt like she fell down in the area of reading the Bible. She related that at night she felt so tired she knew she would just fall asleep if she sat down and opened her Bible. When it was suggested, she get up early and read the Word, she told how her baby is making demands then, followed by the basic responsibilities to her other children and husband in making breakfast and her nonstop exhausting day has begun.

Do you find, like that gal, times in the Word of GOD crowded out because of other demands?  It is so easy to do.

If so, I would like to double dare you to keep a bible open, high enough so little ones won’t get it. Then stop when passing it and for just a minute or 2 read a verse and then go back to whatever you were doing. But think about what that verse said as you do your chores.

See what happens.

Hugs
