Can you find the answer to the riddle?

If you read to the end you will find a riddle that can only be answered if you read the contents of this devotion to the end.

What can we know about the eternal GOD from whom everything else came to be and comes to us?

We are told that:

Our Creator’s thoughts and ways are higher than the farthest heaven than ours. The distance just between the earth and our sun boggles my mind so GOD’s thoughts and ways are infinitely higher and farther than we can grasp.  Then we are given an example in how HIS ways work to accomplish what GOD wants done (Isaiah 55:8-11).

Yet, crazy as it is we still think we know how HE should handle things and attempt to counsel HIM (Isaiah 40:12-14).

Words such as unsearchable (Romans 11:33, Psalm 145:3) are used to describe GOD and HIS works.

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of GOD! How unfathomable, inscrutable, unsearchable are HIS judgments HIS decisions And how untraceable, mysterious, undiscoverable are HIS ways (HIS methods, HIS paths)! (Romans 11:33 Amplified Bible classic edition).

That being said, still GOD urges us in HIS Word to grow in our knowledge of GOD our FATHER and the LORD JESUS CHRIST our Savior to the intent that as we grow in our knowledge that we grow in our faith, grace and peace are multiplied to us for HIS divine power has given us all things necessary for life and godliness through our knowledge of HIM.  Through our knowledge of GOD the FATHER and our LORD JESUS CHRIST we are given exceedingly great and precious promises that through them (if we use them) we actually will become partakers in the divine nature (take on HIS attributes such as love, joy, peace, gentleness, patience, goodness, humility and self-control).  (2 Peter 1:1-4).

So in obedience let’s begin our journey at the beginning and look at the characters we are shown.

In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with GOD, and the WORD was GOD. The same was in the beginning with GOD. All things were made by HIM; and without HIM was not anything made that was madeAnd the WORD was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld HIS glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the FATHER [the only ONE given just a body for HIS being was from the beginning]) full of grace and truth (John 1:1-3, 14).

GOD, who at sundry times and in divers manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,  Has in these last days spoken unto us by HIS Son, whom HE hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also HE made the worlds;  Who being the brightness of HIS glory, and the express image of HIS person, and upholding all things by the word of HIS power, when HE (JESUS) had by HIMSELF purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high (Hebrews 1:1-3).

Let this mind be in you, which was also in CHRIST JESUS:  Who, being in the form of GOD, thought it not robbery to be equal with GOD: But made HIMSELF of no reputation, and took upon HIM the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, HE humbled HIMSELF, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:5-8).

JESUS was from the beginning and through HIM GOD the FATHER made all things and without JESUS nothing was made that was made.  JESUS was in the form of GOD the FATHER and was equal with GOD the FATHER but JESUS the eternal Word took on the form of a human and humbled HIMSELF to live in obedience and then died on the cross for the sins of the world.

In the beginning GOD (the FATHER) created the heaven and the earth (as we have seen through JESUS) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the SPIRIT of GOD moved upon the face of the waters.(Genesis 1:1-2).

And GOD said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth (Genesis 1:26).

From GOD’s word we see that this is a conversation between the GODHEAD… Who are the characters in that meeting?  Scripture says: 1)GOD the FATHER, 2)the WORD=GOD the SON and 3)GOD the HOLY SPIRIT.

Enough for you to chew on for awhile.

I urge you to continue on this amazing journey of discovering, digging out treasures of truth about the ONE who loves you more than any other (Romans 8:39).  I guarantee that if you do you will not only grow in knowledge and understanding of HIM but you will become increasingly amazed and more enthralled by HIM. May I suggest that you underline in your Bible and perhaps even journal the things you find that are true about our triune GOD: GOD the FATHER, our LORD JESUS CHRIST and the HOLY SPIRIT that you see as you read the Word of GOD.  If someone tells you something about GOD that you not sure about…don’t simply despise and reject it, go to the Word of GOD and prayerfully check it out.  If it is true embrace it, but if it is false throw it away (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22).  For we are to learn from one another (Ephesians 4:15-16).

Riddle:  Since nothing was made that was made without JESUS- who is also called the WORD, and it is written that Moses died according to the Word of the LORD and HE (GOD) buried Moses (Deuteronomy 34:5-6), who dug the grave?

Go to the ant

Go to the ant: GOD’s creation is amazing… the colors, textures and designs are so intricate. In HIS creation GOD left HIS fingerprints all over so that not only would people know there was a Creator but also so we would learn valuable lessons.

Psalm 6:6 tells us to go to the ant to learn our work ethic. He goes and gets his supplies.

In Isaiah 28 the Word of GOD speaks of GOD as teaching the farmer.

Isaiah 28: 26 He knows what to do, for GOD has made him see and understand…

Isaiah 28: 28 speaks of how different things need to be handled in different ways

Isaiah 28: 29 sums it up with “The LORD of Hosts is a wonderful teacher and gives wisdom.”

What good does studying GOD’s Word do us if we don’t to use it in our daily life?  Just learning is not enough.  GOD tells us that we remain babies/ carnal (obeying the old sin nature) unless we put into practice the things HE is showing us (Hebrews 5:14).

Once many years ago I was reading in the Psalms and came to the words, “Don’t be like the horse or the mule” (Psalm 32:9).  They seems to jump off the page.  That spoke to me of stubbornness and I said to the LORD, “Well, I’m not stubborn, but Mac is, so you must want me to pray for him.”  Because, I refused to take what GOD showed me and apply it to myself it took years before GOD could work in my life to get rid of my selfish stubbornness (that I wasn’t even aware was part of me).

GOD gives us all things needed for us to grow in grace through our knowledge of HIM and of JESUS our LORD (2 Peter 1:1-4) and if we use them we will grow and be fruitful for GOD (2 Peter 1:4-10).

There is a key to practical application of this.  Ephesians 1:3 says that although GOD gives us everything we need, HE stores it in heaven.  Like when we go to the store and buy what we need for several meals.  When we get home, we put the supplies away in the cupboard.

Then when we need something we go to the cupboard and get it.  In the same way when we need patience or gentleness, whatever the situation demands, we run to the throne of grace and get it.

Hebrews 4:16  “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and get the grace (GOD’s riches at CHRIST’s expense) we need to help in time of need.”

If you lack wisdom, ask of GOD, who gives to all generously, without scolding or bringing up the past, and it shall be given to you. But be sure you ask expecting GOD to answer and be willing to do as HE says otherwise, you’ll be greatly disappointed, for GOD will give you nothing. (see James 1:5-6).

Are you like the ant, do you go get the supplies you need and use them?

I urge you in CHRIST’s stead to consider these things and may the good LORD give you wisdom and understanding (James 1:5, 1 Corinthians 2:10) as HE guides you with HIS peace (Colossians 3:15), strengthens you with HIS joy (Nehemiah 8:10), and enables you with HIS grace (Hebrews 4:16). Now may the GOD of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT.”(Romans 15:13) Keep looking unto JESUS (Hebrews 12:2) and talk over your thoughts with HIM (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Grow in grace

How do we grow in grace?

Doing some research on some Bible words this morning I got another glimpse of one of GOD’s marvelous ways.  It so excites me, although it is not new, I just have to share it with you.

A word translated add to in English in 2 Peter 1:5, means something different in the Greek*.  It the Greek sentence structure and form means is developed by

We see that specific concept on how we grow in grace and in the knowledge of GOD our FATHER and our LORD and Savior JESUS CHRIST in James 1:2-4 where we are told to rejoice when we have all different kinds of problems and temptations because that this testing of our faith produces patience in us and then in turn patience endurance works and develops us into maturity where we are full equipped (to cope) and lack nothing.

In 2 Peter 1:5 giving all diligence to walk by faith will develop virtue in us. Then as we apply virtue, knowledge will be developed (Hebrews 5:14 says using what we learn produces discernment).

2 Peter 1:6 says: applying knowledge will develop self-control, and acting with self-control will develop patience and as we learn to wait (walk in patience) we become godly- (we will include GOD in all our thoughts and actions).

2 Peter 1:7 When GOD is in all our thoughts, brotherlykindness will begin to flow, andwhen brotherly kindness is acted out then charity (GOD’s agapa love) is anatural overflow.  Then all the awesome qualities found in 1Corinthians 13 will flow from us as the living water of the HOLY SPIRIT isreleased through us (John 7:38-39).

This process is why we are exhorted in Philippians 3:16 to live out what we have learn thus far.  If we do that then Philippians 3:15 says GOD will reveal more to us.  I like how Luke puts it,

“Take heed how you hear (do you pay attention and apply it?) for whosoever has (if you really believe something you will act on it) more will be given, but whosoever has not even that which he thinks he has will be taken away from him” (Luke 8:18- see also Mark 4:23-25).  Now that is a warning that takes us back to 2 Peter 1:5 when we are instructed to diligently apply (live out) our faith).

Isn’t it exciting to know that by simply by practicing what we have learned that we develop other awesome qualities.  GOD’s ways are amazing!  What wisdom and knowledge belongs to HIM.

Now, may the LORD guide you with HIS peace (Colossians 3:15), strengthen you with HIS joy (Nehemiah 8:10) and enable you with HIS grace (Hebrews 4:16).  Keep looking unto JESUS (Hebrews 12:2) and talk over your thoughts with HIM (2 Corinthians 10:5).
