Distracted and Perplexed

I awoke thinking back to something that had startled me and had an urgency to write it out and ask you all 2 questions.

While entering into praise and worship I am usually oblivious to anything else.  Yet during worship an action near me caught my attention, distracted and perplexed me.  A person who always brings a smile to me with her exuberant celebration of GOD had raised both hands with great exuberance at the mention of GOD our FATHER and at the mention of JESUS CHRIST our LORD then ABRUPTLY and with force lowered both hands to her sides at the mention of the HOLY SPIRIT.  It didn’t happen just once and the 2^nd time I was not merely startled but grieved for it troubled me.

The HOLY SPIRIT is the 3^rd person of the GODHEAD.  HE is who interprets GOD’s words and thoughts to us (1 Corinthians 2:10-13) and in fact HE was the ONE who moved the Prophets of old to speak and write down GOD’s words resulting in the Bible we have today (2 Peter 1:21). HE is fully GOD and an individual person.  In the Word of GOD not a lot of emphasis is given to HIM for HIS job is to point us to GOD the FATHER and JESUS, GOD the SON.  But enough is said for us to know HE is a person, and HE is a vital part of everything the GODHEAD does beginning in creation Genesis 1:2 and throughout the entire Bible.

Romans 1:¹ the gospel of GOD, ² which HE (GOD) promised beforehand through HIS prophets in the holy Scriptures, ³ concerning HIS SON (JESUS), who was descended from Davidaccording to the flesh ⁴ and was declared to be the SON of GOD in power according to the SPIRIT of holiness by HIS resurrection from the dead, JESUS CHRIST our LORD.

Acts 1:² Until the day in which HE (JESUS) was taken up, after HE (JESUS) through the HOLY SPIRIT had given commandments unto the apostles whom HE (JESUS) had chosen (the HOLY SPIRIT had to explain to the disciples what JESUS meant)

1 Corinthians 2:¹⁰ these things GOD has revealed to us through the (HOLY) SPIRIT. For the SPIRIT searches everything, even the depths of GOD. ¹¹ For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of GOD except the (HOLY) SPIRIT of GOD. ¹² Now

we have received not the spirit of the world, but the (HOLY) SPIRIT who is from GOD, THAT WE MIGHT UNDERSTAND the things freely given us by GOD. ¹³ And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the (HOLY) SPIRIT, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.

One becomes spiritual when that one believes in JESUS. John 7: ³⁸ Whoever believes in ME (JESUS), as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” ³⁹ Now this HE said about the (HOLY) SPIRIT, whom those who believed in HIM (JESUS) were to receive, for as yet the (HOLY) SPIRIT had not been given, because JESUS was not yet glorified (proven to be GOD the SON when raised from the dead Romans 1:4). (We become spiritual when our spirit comes alive when we are born again of the HOLY SPIRIT -John 3:5-7).

While on earth, although fully GOD and fully man, JESUS laid aside HIS GOD virtues and powers and operated only in HIS human manhood in order to be able to be a faithful high priest (Hebrews 2:17).  JESUS had to live as a human man to qualify to die for man’s sin.  Only a man could offer HIMSELF for the sins of mankind. 

Therefore, the HOLY SPIRIT indwelt JESUS, led JESUS (Matthew 4:1) and empowered JESUS, just as HE does for believers in JESUS today.  Even when JESUS spoke GOD’s words, man could not understand them unless the HOLY SPIRIT interpreted them, for man cannot understand the things of GOD (1 Corinthians 2:9-13).  It took the HOLY SPIRIT to explain JESUS words just as it takes the HOLY SPIRIT to explain our words about GOD to people and that is why the disciples had to wait for the HOLY SPIRIT to go witness (Acts 1:8, John 16:8).

Romans 1:^{3-4 CEV} This good news (gospel) is about HIS SON, our LORD JESUS CHRIST! As a human, HE (JESUS) was from the family of David. But the HOLY SPIRIT proved that JESUS is the powerful SON of GOD,because HE (JESUS) was raised from death.

1 John 2^:2 And HE (JESUS) is the propitiation (atoning sacrifice) for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Matthew 12:³¹ Therefore, I (JESUS) tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the SPIRIT will not be forgiven ³² And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man (JESUS) will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the HOLY SPIRIT will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

There are 2 basic questions that I want to ask. 

#1 if JESUS paid for all the sins of the world (1 John 2:2) and HE did, then how can there be a sin that cannot be forgiven?  

John 3:¹⁶ For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, that whosoever believeth in HIM (JESUS) should not perish but have everlasting life ³⁶ HE that believeth on the SON hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the SON shall not see life; but the wrath of GOD abides (remains) on him.

Revelation 1:⁵ And from JESUS CHRIST, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the Prince of the kings of the earth. Unto HIM that loved us and washed us from our sins in HIS own blood, ⁶ And has made us kings and priests unto GOD and HIS FATHER to HIM (JESUS) be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Sins are only forgiven when one receives the truth and believes in JESUS it is at that time our sins are washed away.  Read again John 3:36 written above.

One only can believe in JESUS and receive HIM if he listens to the witness of the HOLY SPIRIT within when he hears the gospel presented.  The refusal to hear the HOLY SPIRIT’s conviction of truth is blasphemy in that it says what YOU HOLY SPIRIT are saying and doing is not real but a lie.

Therefore, the answer for 1^st question is by refusing the inner witness of the HOLY SPIRIT of WHO JESUS is you refuse JESUS and thus reject/refuse to receive GOD’s give of eternal life.

Question #2 is the HOLY SPIRIT truly GOD and worthy of worship?

Ephesians 4:³⁰ And grieve not the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD, whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption.

1 Corinthians 12:¹¹ But all these work that ONE and the selfsame (HOLY) SPIRIT, dividing (spiritual) to every man severally as HE (the HOLY SPIRIT) wills.

Matthew 3:¹⁶ And JESUS, when HE was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the SPIRIT of GOD descending like a dove, and lighting upon HIM.

Only an individual can be seen.

And HE (GOD) that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the SPIRIT, because HE maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of GOD (Romans 8:27).

The HOLY SPIRIT is not a mere force, HE has a mind of HIS own, HE is referred to as person by use of the pronoun HE.  Only a person can have a will of HIS own, be grieved or blasphemed. 

We see throughout scripture that all 3 persons of the GODHEAD work in unity in everything that is done.  From GOD the FATHER comes every good thing (James 1:17). JESUS is the fulness of the GODHEAD in a body form who died for us and lives to intercede for us (Colossians 2:9, Hebrews 7:25) and GOD the HOLY SPIRIT seals us unto the day of redemption, teaches, leads and comforts us, edits our prayers and so much more (John 14;16, 26, 16:13 Ephesians 1:13, 4:30), Our GOD is a great GOD infinite in all HIS qualities and beyond our comprehension (Isaiah 55:8-9). All 3 persons of the GODHEAD are equally worthy of praise.

2 Corinthians 13:^{14 NIV} May the grace (GOD’s riches at CHRIST’s expense) of the LORD JESUS CHRIST, and the love of GOD (our FATHER), and the fellowship of the HOLY SPIRIT be with you all. 

Matthew 28:^{19 NIV} Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the FATHER and of the SON and of the HOLY SPIRIT

PS-Here are a few glimpses into how the 3 persons of the work in unity and are ONE.

ln creation (Genesis 1)

1-GOD the FATHER designed creation for HE works all things after the counsel of HIS own will (Ephesians 1:11) All comes from GOD the FATHER (James 1:17)

2-JESUS the WORD-GOD created all things through JESUS the Word, nothing was made without JESUS (John 1:1-3, Hebrews 1:2, 10).

3-The HOLY SPIRIT moved over the waters (Hebrew: brooded as a bird over her young) (Genesis 1:2)

The Bible

1-GOD the FATHER-It is GOD the FATHER’s message to mankind (Revelation 1:1)

2-JESUS-The bible is about JESUS from Genesis where HE is called (the seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15), HE is the spirit of Prophesy (Revelation 19:10) And the Bible ends saying Come LORD JESUS (Revelation 22:20)

3-HOLY SPIRIT-The Bible was written as holy men of GOD were moved on by the HOLY SPIRIT to write down GOD’s words. (2 Peter 1:21)

JESUS the eternal Word takes on a body

1-GOD the FATHER- It was FATHER’s plan (as they counseled together (Genesis 1:26) and GOD the FATHER sends HIS SON (John 3:16)

2-JESUS took on the form of man (Philippians 2:5-8)

3-HOLY SPIRIT-The HOLY SPIRIT came on Mary and the power of the Most High overshadowed her and the HOLY ONE born of Mary was called the SON of GOD (Luke 1:35)

JESUS baptism (John 3:13-17)

1-GOD the FATHER spoke aloud (Luke 3:22)

2-JESUS was baptized because it was the right thing- (Matthew 3:14-15) in obedience of being made like HIS brethren in all ways (Hebrews 2:17)

3-HOLY SPIRIT-The HOLY SPIRIT descended to and remained on JESUS (Luke 3:22)

When JESUS was tempted

1-GOD the FATHER works all things after the counsel of HIS own will. GOD the FATHER is always in control (Ephesians 1:11) though HE may not engineer a struggle, not one trouble can happen to us without HIS permission (see Job chapters 1 and 2). Although the FATHER may allow trouble to come from an outside source, it is never allowed without a cause (Proverbs 26:2), that is MOST HIGH always has a plan and HIS intent for allowing something difficult is always to achieve a necessary good (Genesis 50:20).

2-JESUS after obediently following the lead of the HOLY SPIRIT into the wilderness, was tempted for forty days by the devil. (Luke 4:2). For HE had to be made like HIS brethren (those who would believe in HIM) in every way (Hebrews 2:17).

3-HOLY SPIRIT-JESUS was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil (Matthew 4:1).

When a person becomes a child of GOD

1-GOD the FATHER-One becomes a child of GOD the FATHER (Hebrews 12:6-7, 9)

2-JESUS-When one believes in /trusts in JESUS blood to cleanse her from her sins and calls on the name of the LORD she is saved from the wrath of GOD and becomes a child of GOD (John 3:36, John 1:12-13)

3-HOLY SPIRIT-one is born again by the work of the HOLY SPIRIT (John 1:12-13, 3:5-8), and HE gives her new life (Ephesians 2:5) placing her into the body of CHRIST which is the church (1 Corinthians 12:13, 27)

Developing us into godliness

1-FATHER GOD’s role our childrearing to discipline those HE accepts and loves and also to Provide whatever is necessary (Hebrews 12:6-7, 10-11).

2-JESUS nature is what we are being made like (Romans 8:29), HE intercedes and saves us to the uttermost (Hebrews 7:25)

3-The HOLY SPIRIT teaches us (John 14:26, 16:13) prays for our needs that we do not know how to pray for (Romans 8:26-27), HE also convicts us of sin (John 16:8) and explains GOD’s word to us (1 Corinthians 2:10-13).

In Prayer

1-GOD the FATHER-Prayer is to GOD the FATHER and HE bends down to hear us (John 16:23)

2-JESUS CHRIST-We are to pray in the name of JESUS CHRIST (John 16:23) and JESUS as our high priest understands what are needs are because HE was tempted in all ways but without sin (Hebrews 4:15-16).

3-HOLY SPIRIT- the HOLY SPIRIT moves us to pray and edits our prayers for us (Romans 8:26-27).

In the crucifixion

1-GOD the FATHER-was by the definite plan and foreknowledge of GOD the FATHER (Acts 2:23)

2-JESUS bore our sins and sorrows on the cross (Isaiah 53:4-6) and disarmed the principalities and powers at the same time (Colossians 2:15).

3-HOLY SPIRIT-Through the HOLY SPIRIT JESUS offered HIMSELF (Hebrews 9:14)

Witnessing to the Lost  (1 John 5:7).

1-GOD the FATHER-The message we are to give when witnessing is that GOD the FATHER loves us and sent HIS only SON to save us (John 3:16) and that GOD the FATHER raised JESUS from the dead (Romans 10:9)

2-JESUS is GOD-The message is that JESUS is GOD/ the LOIRD and HE willingly came to die for our sin (Philippians 2:5-8) so be could be reconciled to GOD the FATHER (Romans 5:10, 2 Corinthians 5:18).

3-The HOLY SPIRIT convicts the hearts of the men and shows them their need of a Savior (John 16:8).

We cannot fully understand YAHWEH the Great I AM- the Great 3 in 1 who is our GOD  for HE is unsearchable but, have you caught a glimpse of the Trinity working together in perfect unity? For THEY are ONE GOD.

1-GOD our Heavenly FATHER plans, provides and disciplines…

2-JESUS saves and intercedes…

3-the HOLY SPIRIT teaches, comforts, leads, equips (using the supplies given by GOD the FATHER) and empowers.

Deuteronomy 6:^{4 KJV} Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
Deuteronomy 6:^{4 NOG} Listen, Israel: Yahweh is our Elohim. Yahweh is the only GOD.

* YAHWEY is singular, but Elohim is plural of the word El =GOD. One and only GOD is in 3 persons.

Genesis 1:^{26 KJV}  And GOD said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

Genesis 1:^{26 NOG} Then Elohim said, “Let US make humans in OUR image, in OUR likeness. Let them rule the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the domestic animals all over the earth, and all the animals that crawl on the earth.

Something I overlooked

This morning reading about the last hours of JESUS before and during HIS crucifixion, I noticed something I had not picked up on yet, although I have read the account in John countless times.  There are several references that I knew well stating this was to fulfill scripture.  But in John 18:32 I saw something that I had totally overlooked.

John 18:³¹ Then said Pilate unto them, Take HIM, and judge HIM according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: ³² That the saying of JESUS might be fulfilled, which HE spoke, signifying what death HE should die.

Now I knew the Jews could not crucify people, they stoned them to death. But I never saw that the crucifixion was JESUS’ (NOT Old Testament) prophesy being fulfilled.  So, I went to check where JESUS prophesied HIS manner of death.

What I found were verses I knew, could quote to you and had even taught from but I had never seen them as JESUS prophesying how HE would die.  I also saw truth in them I hadn’t been able to grasp.

John 12:³² And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto ME.³³ This HE said, signifying what death HE should die.

I thought instantly of John 3 when early in JESUS ministry HE talked with a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews who came to JESUS by night wanting to know more but not wanting others to know he was seeking.  JESUS told Nicodemus a story he knew well.

Numbers 21:⁹ And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man (because he had sinned), when that man beheld (looked up to) the serpent of brass, he lived.

JESUS said to Nicodemus:

John 3:¹⁴ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the SON of man be lifted up: ¹⁵ That whosoever believeth in HIM should not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, that whosoever believeth in HIM (JESUS) should not perish but have everlasting life.

JESUS explained in those few verses to the noted Jewish teacher who HE (the SON of man) was, how to be born again, the reason one needed to born again and now I know JESUS also spoke of the manner of HIS death and not just HIS death.

Only those Jews in the wilderness who choose to believe the inconceivable word of GOD spoken by Moses that just looking at a brass snake would heal them and they would live and not die chose to look and were healed.  Any who thought it was crazy and didn’t look died because they refused to believe GOD and accept HIS offer to heal them.

It is the same with JESUS.  Those who will look to HIM receive everlasting life but those who refuse the wrath of GOD remains on them (John 3:36).

Remember IF you are a believer in the LORD JESUS CHRIST and have called on HIS name to save you (Romans 10:9-10, 13) you are saved and are a KING for GOD tells us in Revelation 1:5 from JESUS CHRIST, Who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the Prince of the kings of the earth. Unto HIM that loved us and washed us from our sins in HIS own blood, ⁶ And has made us kings and priests unto GOD and HIS FATHER; to HIM be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

As a KING you can choose to search and find the delights of truth hidden in the Word of GOD for Proverbs 25:2 “It is the glory of GOD to conceal a thing: but the honor of KINGS (you) is to search out a matter.”

Choices

My son got 2 very young kittens a few weeks back. Knowing that after they ate they would have to do their business somewhere, we got two litter boxes.  We did not know what we know now. The kittens did not know what litter boxes were and became frightened when we would place them in one.  To cut down on the mess, I asked the LORD what to do. Then thought to put down cardboard with liter on it in the spots the kittens favored going (which is in my bedroom, under my bed). They are getting better on doing their business on the litter, but I still don’t know how to graduate them to the litter boxes.   

One of so many things I love about the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY is that HE knows all things (John 16:30), not just things past and present but also future. That simple mind-boggling fact helps me accept so much I cannot grasp.

GOD in three persons makes up the GODHEAD (Matthew 28:19) and in the counsels of heaven HE chose to make mankind to fellowship with HIM.  HE chose to make them in HIS image (Genesis 1:26).  Part of that image is the ability to make choices. Yet GOD did not make man to be in control.

Many scripture texts show that GOD allows men to do wrong to show us what is in us and why we need a Savior. Each person is always responsible for their own choices and choices have consequences. Often the MOST HIGH allows wicked men to do wrong.  But as Genesis 50:20 (and many other texts) show when GOD allows men to do wrong with evil intent, GOD has pre-planned to use their actions for an end result of good to those who love HIM (Romans 8:28).  There is always a plan in place (see 2 Corinthians 4:15-18) and GOD is always in control (Ephesians 1:11).

In making man with the ability to choose that meant they could either accept and love HIM or reject HIM.  HE knew before creation which would do what.  Yet for GOD to give the ability to choose meant HE had to 1st choose to allow HIMSELF to selectively suffer certain things because of mankind’s choices while GOD HIMSELF maintained complete Sovereign control. GOD is never at man’s mercy.

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT is said to grieve at times because of our actions (Ephesians 4:30). HE is holy and anything unholy grieves HIM. GOD the SON, our LORD JESUS, consented and chose to suffer much on earth from humiliation to carrying all the punishment for the sins of mankind in torture on the cross of Calvary.  GOD the FATHER suffered as HE laid HIS wrath for sin on HIS beloved SON.  HE did it out of HIS love for mankind.  But our triune GOD chose to do that because HE wanted us. 

“GOD devised means, that HIS banished be not expelled from HIM” (2 Samuel 14:14).

Interestingly, we find that GOD preset (past tense) the times and places (Acts 17:26) thereby set the stage where we make our choices.  In HIS astounding foreknowledge HE knew what choices would be made and synchronized it all.  It’s beyond amazing, just blows my mind thinking of it.

Mesmerizes

Recently we were given 2 kittens, and their frolicking antics mesmerize us so that we just sit and watch them scamper about.

In our Friday study we have been doing a special 7-week study on GOD’s names and nature.  We’ve been focusing in on one thing true of GOD each day by answering questions from Bible verses about GOD doing that very quality.  It’s not that what I am seeing is in any way new, but like those kittens antics each quality is captivating, and it mesmerizes me getting me to think about GOD using that quality throughout my day.  

The 1^st thing we studied was that GOD is Triune in essence: GOD the FATHER, JESUS-GOD the SON and GOD the HOLY SPIRIT.

The LORD GOD ALMIGHTY Maker of heaven and earth called HIMSELF YHWH and said I AM WHO I AM, tell the children of Israel that I AM has sent me to you (Exodus 3:14). In Revelation HE says I AM the ALPHA and the OMEGA, the beginning and the end (Revelation 1:8) I AM the ALPHA and the OMEGA the first and the last (Revelation 1:11), I AM ALPHA and OMEGA, the beginning and the end, the first and the last (Revelation 22:13)

Who was in the beginning?

John 1:¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and the Word was GOD. ² The same was in the beginning with GOD. ¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld HIS glory, the glory as of the Only begotten of the FATHER,) full of grace and truth.

We see both GOD the FATHER and JESUS were in the beginning, but it wasn’t just them.

Hebrews 9:14 tells us that the HOLY SPIRIT is eternal, so HE too was in the beginning. Genesis 1:2 verifies this when it shows the HOLY SPIRIT brooding (like a hen over her young) over the waters on the 1^st day of time.  

The GODHEAD is one GOD in 3 persons.  Each person was in the beginning and has the same nature.  But we see in scripture that at least in their connection and interaction with mankind on earth at the present time they have different roles while always working jointly and in complete unity in everything they do.  It was fun outlining from Bible verse how each of the three worked jointly together in Creation, the Bible, JESUS getting a body, JESUS baptism, a person getting to become a child of GOD, developing believers into godliness, in prayer, in the crucifixion, and in witnessing to the lost.

In Genesis 1:26 GOD says let us (Plural) make man in our image (a singular image).  This states that each person in the GODHEAD has the same exact image.  Then we are told that JESUS (the eternal Word who took on flesh) “In HIM (JESUS) all the fullness of Deity (the GODHEAD) dwells in bodily form [completely expressing the divine essence of GOD] (Colossians 2:9 AMP).

Speaking of the GODHEAD, JESUS alone has a physical body taken on so HE could be make like us and die for our sins (Philippians 2:5-8, Hebrews 2:17) and become our faithful High Priest. 

JESUS related to HIS disciples, “…he that has seen ME (JESUS) has seen the FATHER;” (John 14:9) and since the HOLY SPIRIT has the same image (essence) we know that by looking at JESUS we have also seen what GOD the HOLY SPIRIT is like.

Therefore, that which is true of the SPIRIT is true also of JESUS and of GOD the FATHER.  For instance, the fruit of the SPIRIT (Galatians 5:22-23) is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, kindness, goodness, faith, self-control and meekness are part of each of the GODHEAD.

GOD the FATHER sent JESUS to die for our sins that we might be forgiven and have eternal life (John 3:16).  GOD the FATHER sent forth the HOLY SPIRIT in JESUS name to convict all men and to teach and reveal truth to believers (John 14:26, 16:8, 13).

FATHER GOD speaks but the HOLY SPIRIT must explain to us what the FATHER is saying in order for us to understand what GOD means (1 Corinthians 2:10-13).  JESUS taught only that which FATHER GOD wanted the disciples to know (John 12:49) but it is the HOLY SPIRIT who enabled the disciples to understand what JESUS meant (Acts 1:2).

The HOLY SPIRIT lives within each believer, but only as we listen and yield to HIM can HE lead us.  What I mean by that is since we have been given the ability to choose, we sometimes choose not to do what we know we should do.  Part of the work of the HOLY SPIRIT is to write what GOD wants in our minds so we know what GOD wants (Hebrews 10: 16) and HE places within our hearts what GOD wants us to do so we will want it too (Philippians 2:13).

The Bible tells us that we are living in the last days and that these days are days of deception.  Therefore, we need to be able to hear the HOLY SPIRIT to know what to do and then obey without question.  If we have grieved HIM by sin or quenched HIM by refusing HIS guidance we have our backs to HIM and our fingers in our ears.

In order to hear and obey we must prepare our hearts beforehand, determining to listen and obey no matter how silly it may seem.  Then although the HOLY SPIRIT was given to us when we believed in JESUS and we are sealed until the day of Redemption (Ephesians 1:13, 4:39) since we are sinners we need to ask GOD our FATHER for a fresh anointing of the HOLY SPIRIT’s power (Luke 11:13) in all things acknowledging that we are not sufficient of ourselves to think we can do it on our own (2 Corinthians 3:5, Proverbs 3:5-7). As we Mind (think about) the things of the SPIRIT, HE will lead and empower us to do what we should. 

Then it is just a matter to do what we know we should do and to abstain from whatever HE says NO! to.

Like I said, it is nothing new but I for one need to be reminded (John 14:26) from time to time. It refreshes me and my amazement and appreciation of our AWESOME GOD grows.

The Wheelbarrow

This beautiful sunshine makes me want to get the flower beds cleaned up and ready for spring flowers.  It reminds me of Dad and how he would get things ready.  Though quite small when we moved to June Lake, I remember Dad building a rock border so he could level the yard.  He used a wheelbarrow to haul the rocks and also to mix up the cement to fix them into place.  Other times when the wheelbarrow was empty and clean he’d give my sister and me wild rides tipping the wheelbarrow to the right and left as he’d move it forward.

That old wheelbarrow and how Dad used it reminds me of what the LORD has emphasized to me lately about JESUS the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). Let me lay the foundation of what I am seeing in hopes that you can see it too.

JESUS-then called the WORD- totally equal with GOD the FATHER both in form and nature (John 1:1-4), laid aside HIS visible glory and rights and riches and took on the form of man and became obedient unto death because the GODHEAD (all THREE) desired a relationship with mankind whom they had made (Philippians 2:4-8)

Leaving the glory of heaven the Light of the World came down into the darkness of this world of sin saying, “I come to do THY will, O GOD” (Hebrews 10:9).  In doing so HE determined to not speak HIS own words (John 3:34-35, 12:49) nor use HIS own powers (Luke 4:14, Acts 1:2). 

Totally aware of what HIS choice would mean (John 21:17, Acts 15:18 KJ) JESUS humbly chose to suffer for HE knew it was necessary for HIM to be made like unto HIS brethren (humans) in all ways, that HE might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to GOD, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people (Hebrews 2:17). That was the only way people could be saved and live eternally with HIM.

Now how does this connect with Dad’s old wheelbarrow?  He could not mix the cement in the wheelbarrow when it was full of rocks, it had to be empty, nor could Dad give his 3 girls rides while the wet cement was in the wheelbarrow.  Dad had to empty and wash it out before we got our rides.

In order for JESUS to be made like us (Humans) HE emptied HIMSELF out.  That only means HE chose not to go HIS own way, nor find HIS own pleasure, nor speak HIS own words but only do GOD’s will.  Did you know that Isaiah 58:13b states that doing those very things enables you and me to delight in the LORD?

When the Creator, JESUS took on a human body inside of Mary and became a baby, dependent on ones HE had made and even submitting to them was beyond huge.  But what the LORD has been impressing on me was the beginning of HIS ministry up to HIS ascension back into heaven as how I am to daily follow HIS lead (Hebrews 2:10). “Looking unto JESUS the Author and finisher of our faith” Hebrews 12:2.

Hebrews 10:9 “I come to do YOUR will O GOD” John 3:34 For HE (JESUS) whom GOD has sent speaks the words of GOD: for GOD gives not the SPIRIT by measure unto HIM (JESUS).

Luke 4:1 And JESUS being full of the HOLY SPIRIT returned from Jordan, and was led by the SPIRIT into the wilderness, Luke 4:14  And JESUS returned in the power of the SPIRIT into Galilee… 15  And HE taught in their synagogues… Acts 1:2 Until the day in which HE (JESUS) was taken up, after that HE (JESUS) through the HOLY SPIRIT had given commandments unto the apostles whom HE had chosen. 

I see JESUS does only what GOD wants HIM to do.  HE does not speak HIS own words but speaks only what HE hears the FATHER say.  HE goes not in HIS own power and ideas but is filled by the HOLY SPIRIT.  Being FILLED HE is led and goes by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT.  Notice, the HOLY SPIRIT teaches through HIM, so JESUS doesn’t convict people JESUS just speaks the words the FATHER give HIM, and the HOLY SPIRIT gives the people understanding (1 Corinthians 2:10-13).

Hebrews 8:14 blows me away, “… CHRIST, who through the eternal SPIRIT offered HIMSELF without spot to GOD…” 

On earth while in a human body, JESUS depended on GOD the FATHER and GOD the HOLY SPIRIT and did nothing on HIS own.

We received and were sealed with the indwelling of the HOLY SPIRIT when we were saved (John 7:38-39, Ephesians 1:13). But now we are commanded to be filled by the HOLY SPIRIT (Ephesians 5:18).  But what does that mean since we cannot not fill ourselves? I think Luke 11:13 holds the key when it say that GOD the FATHER will give the HOLY SPIRIT to those who ask.  We see in Acts 4:31 that the very disciples who on the Day of Pentecost were filled (Acts 2:4) with the HOLY SPIRIT with power yet on another day they prayed to GOD for boldness after being threatened and they are filled anew with the HOLY SPIRIT and speak with power. We are saved one time.  We get the indwelling HOLY SPIRIT one time and are sealed to GOD one time.  But the filling with power comes and goes.  I think we need to ask daily for the HOLY SPIRIT to fill us for whatever GOD has prepared for us to do.  Scripture says, “You have not because you ask not” (James 4:2).

Therefore, to follow JESUS how much more do I need to lay aside my personal opinions and ideas and seek to know and follow GOD’s leading (Proverbs 3:5-7) and be filled with the HOLY SPIRIT.  Only when we are filled by the HOLY SPIRIT can we be led by and walk with the HOLY SPIRIT. Daily I need to prepare my heart (Proverbs 16:1) by being in GOD’s word (Matthew 4:4), talking to GOD our FATHER and being willing to obey regardless so I can hear and understand the HOLY SPIRIT (1 Corinthians 2:10-13).  I need to listen carefully and do what I know I should do and say what I know I should say whether I agree with it or not.  For if I am willing to hear and obey, the HOLY SPIRIT will make my instructions clear to me and enable me to obey (John 7:17, Philippians 2:13) . 

But like that wheelbarrow full of dirt, if I am full of my own ideas I won’t be able to hear the HOLY SPIRIT.

Hebrews 8:14 How much more shall the blood of CHRIST, who through the eternal SPIRIT offered HIMSELF without spot to GOD, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living GOD?

A faithful witness

Faithful witness

“It will be as eternal as the moon, MY faithful witness in the sky” Psalm 89:37

Why is the moon called GOD’s faithful witness?

The moon has no source of light from itself.  The reason we can see the moon at all is because the sun shines. The moon just reflects (witnesses to) the light of the sun.  To be a witness is to tell of something you see and the moon’s light is a reflection of the sun shining on it.

So, for us to witness of GOD the FATHER and the LORD JESUS is merely to tell others about GOD the FATHER and our LORD JESUS CHRIST.  So you see anyone who has come to GOD through JESUS (Hebrews 7:25), can be an effective and faithful witness.

Working together

I love the chorus of KING of KINGS by Hillsong:  Praise the FATHER, Praise the SON, Praise the SPIRIT, 3 in ONE.  GOD of glory, Majesty, Praise forever to the King of kings.

Today let’s look one specific thing true about GOD.  HE is one GOD, yet there are 3 persons in the GODHEAD. That is what we call the trinity.  Elsewhere it is called the GODHEAD.

The Shema (shema means hear) is the oldest and most important prayer in Judaism. It forms an important part of Jewish evening and morning prayer and is used as a Jewish confession of faith.

Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord (YHWH) our God (Elohim -plural form- that means supreme over all) is one Lord (YHWH).

By looking at the word forms of this confession of faith shows that YAHWEH (the LORD) is plural in existence although one in character, attributes and purpose.  You and I in effect speak of the Shema when we talk about the trinity.

It is exciting to see the THREE in ONE in action working together for the THREE in ONE do all things together, working in conjunction/ unity with one another. We see glimpses of this in many places because the persons of the GODHEAD do not work independently but as a unity in joint effort.

Ever thought about who is being spoken of during Creation when GOD said, “Let US make man in OUR image” in Genesis 1:26. Who are the US and the OUR?   Looking at the details we notice the number of persons seen by the pronouns is plural, but the image is singular.  That is because each of the 3 persons of the GODHEAD possess the exact same divine nature (such as love, joy, peace, gentleness, kindness, goodness, patience and so on.)

Here are a few glimpses into how the 3 persons of the GODHEAD work in unity and are ONE.

ln Creation (Genesis 1)

1-GOD the FATHER designed creation for HE works all things after the counsel of HIS own will (Ephesians 1:11) All comes from GOD the FATHER (James 1:17)

2-JESUS the WORD-GOD created all things through JESUS the Word, nothing was made without JESUS (John 1:1-3, Hebrews 1:2, 10).

3-HOLY SPIRIT-The HOLY SPIRIT moved over the waters (Hebrew: brooded as a bird over her young) (Genesis 1:2)

The Bible

1-GOD the FATHER-It is GOD the FATHER’s message to mankind (Revelation 1:1).  I have always found it amazing that GOD the SON, our LORD JESUS CHRIST never said or did anything on earth without first being told it by GOD the FATHER (John 12:49). When I learned that JESUS had to be made like HIS brethren/ those who would believe in HIM (Hebrews 2:17) it sure helped me understand that.  Also, the HOLY SPIRIT only tells people on earth that which HE hears from GOD the FATHER (John 16:13)

2-JESUS-The bible is about JESUS from Genesis where HE is called (the seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15), HE is the spirit of Prophesy (Revelation 19:10) And the Bible ends saying Come LORD JESUS (Revelation 22:20).

3-HOLY SPIRIT-The Bible was written as holy men of GOD were moved on by the HOLY SPIRIT to write down GOD’s words. (2 Peter 1:21)

JESUS the eternal Word takes on a body.

1-GOD the FATHER- It was FATHER’s plan (as they counseled together (Genesis 1:26) and GOD the FATHER sent HIS SON (John 3:16)

2-JESUS took on the form of man (Philippians 2:5-8)

3-HOLY SPIRIT-The HOLY SPIRIT came on Mary and the power of the Most High overshadowed her and the HOLY ONE born of Mary was called the SON of GOD (Luke 1:35)

JESUS baptism (John 3:13-17)

1-GOD the FATHER spoke aloud (Luke 3:22)

2-JESUS was baptized because it was the right thing to do- (Matthew 3:14-15) in obedience of being made like HIS brethren in all ways (Hebrews 2:17).

3-The HOLY SPIRIT descended to and remained on JESUS (Luke 3:22)

When JESUS was tempted

1-GOD the FATHER works all things after the counsel of HIS own will. GOD the FATHER is always in control (Ephesians 1:11) though HE may not engineer a struggle, not one trouble can happen to us without HIS permission (see Job chapters 1 and 2). Although the FATHER may allow trouble to come from an outside source, it is never allowed without a cause (Proverbs 26:2), that is MOST HIGH always has a plan and HIS intent for allowing something difficult is always to achieve a necessary good (Genesis 50:20).

2-JESUS after obediently following the lead of the HOLY SPIRIT into the wilderness, was tempted for forty days by the devil. (Luke 4:2). For HE had to be made like HIS brethren (those who would believe in HIM) in every way in order to become their High Priest (Hebrews 2:17).

3-HOLY SPIRIT-JESUS was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil (Matthew 4:1).

When a person becomes a child of GOD

1-GOD the FATHER-One becomes a child of GOD the FATHER (Hebrews 12:6-7, 9)

2-JESUS-When one believes in /trusts in JESUS blood to cleanse her from her sins and calls on the name of the LORD she is saved from the wrath of GOD and JESUS gives them the right to become a child of GOD (John 3:36, John 1:12-13).

3-HOLY SPIRIT-one is born again by the work of the HOLY SPIRIT (John 1:12-13, 3:5-8), and the HOLY SPIRIT gives her new life (Ephesians 2:5) placing her into the body of CHRIST which is the church (1 Corinthians 12:13, 27).

Developing us into godliness

1-FATHER GOD’s role in our childrearing is to discipline those HE accepts and loves and also to Provide whatever is necessary (Hebrews 12:6-7, 10-11).

2-JESUS nature is what we are being made like (Romans 8:29), HE intercedes and saves us to the uttermost (Hebrews 7:25)

3-HOLY SPIRIT-The HOLY SPIRIT teaches us (John 14:26, 16:13) prays for our needs that we do not know how to pray for (Romans 8:26-27), HE also convicts us of sin (John 16:8) and explains GOD’s word to us (1 Corinthians 2:10-13).

In Prayer

1-GOD the FATHER-Prayer is to GOD the FATHER and HE bends down to hear us (John 16:23)

2-JESUS CHRIST-We are to pray in the name of JESUS CHRIST (John 16:23) and JESUS as our high priest understands what our specific needs are because HE was tempted in all ways like we are but without sin (Hebrews 4:15-16).

3-HOLY SPIRIT- the HOLY SPIRIT moves us to pray and edits our prayers for us (Romans 8:26-27).

In the crucifixion

1-GOD the FATHER-was by the definite plan and foreknowledge of GOD the FATHER (Acts 2:23)

2-JESUS bore our sins and sorrows on the cross (Isaiah 53:4-6) and disarmed the principalities and powers at the same time (Colossians 2:15).

3-HOLY SPIRIT-Through the HOLY SPIRIT JESUS offered HIMSELF (Hebrews 9:14)

Witnessing to the Lost (1 John 5:7).

1-GOD the FATHER-The message we are to give when witnessing is that GOD the FATHER loves us and sent HIS only SON to save us (John 3:16) and that GOD the FATHER raised JESUS from the dead (Romans 10:9)

2-JESUS –The message is that JESUS is GOD/ the LORD and HE willingly came to die for our sin (Philippians 2:5-8) so we could be reconciled to GOD the FATHER (Romans 5:10, 2 Corinthians 5:18) JESUS’ resurrection proved HE was the SON of GOD (Romans 1:4) a necessary part of believing (Romans 10:9)

3-The HOLY SPIRIT convicts the hearts of the men and shows them their need of a Savior (John 16:8).

There is no way we finite beings can fully understand the infinite YAHWAH/ the Great I AM- the Great 3 in 1 who is our GOD.  But have you caught a glimpse of the Trinity working together in unity?

1-GOD our Heavenly FATHER plans, provides and disciplines…

2-JESUS came,taught, did miracles, died, was resurrected, saves and ever lives to intercede for those who come to the FATHER through HIM (Hebrews 7:25).

3-The HOLY SPIRIT teaches, comforts, leads, equips (using the supplies given by GOD the FATHER) and empowers us who believe.

Praise the FATHER, Praise the SON, Praise the SPIRIT, 3 in ONE.  GOD of glory, Majesty, Praise forever to the King of kings.

Show us more of YOURSELF LORD, show us more of YOURSELF.

Tell them

Before the ALMIGHTY made anything the GODHEAD had an eternal plan.  GOD chose to make mankind in HIS image.  Of all creation only mankind is said to be made in GOD’s image…male and female made HE them (Genesis 1:27).

One element GOD placed in man was reason with the ability to choose.  Throughout scripture we see GOD giving people choices and then rewarding or punishing them according to their choices.

In Genesis 1 GOD creates the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, and HE said it was good but by Genesis 6 we see that things have changed all due to the choices of mankind.

In Genesis 6:5-6 it is written that GOD saw the wickedness of man was so great on the earth and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually and GOD heart was grieved.

But one man found favor in GOD’s eyes (Genesis 6:8) and GOD commissioned him with a double calling.  His name was Noah.

GOD told Noah to build a huge ship (ark) and gave him precise directions.  Now this was in a place that had no shipping water source, nor had it ever rained upon the earth at that time.  For it was a stretch for Noah to believe what GOD told him.

GOD also commissioned Noah to preach righteousness (doing right) to the wicked all around him as he built the ark (2 Peter 2:5). 

Now it took Noah a long time to build that ark from Genesis 6:3 many believe it took Noah 120 years. The whole while Noah preached to the wicked around him as they mocked him while he built the ark.  It is written that the long-suffering of GOD waited while Noah built the ark and preached righteousness before HE brought judgment down on mankind.  For 120 years GOD strove with the wicked (calling them to repentance) as HOLY SPIRIT convicted men through Noah’s preaching of righteousness.

GOD who knows all things, knew that none but Noah and his family would believe HIM, but HE waited and gave the people opportunity after opportunity after opportunity to believe through what Noah said.

1 Peter 1:² ELECT according to the FOREKNOWLEDGE of GOD the FATHER,

GOD never grows in knowledge for HE knows all things past, present and future. So, what particular thing did GOD KNOW that caused HIM to elect Noah and others like us. What caused HIM to choose some and not others?

John 3:¹⁶ For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, that WHOSOEVER BELIEVES in HIM (JESUS) should not perish but have everlasting life.

Ephesians 1:¹¹ In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being PREDESTINATED according to the purpose of HIM who works all things after the counsel of HIS own will:

What was the counsel of GOD own will in electing some/ predestining some for eternal life and to obtain an inheritance but not others?  The counsel of GOD was that WHOSOEVER believes shall receive.  It all depends on a willingness to believe and receive what GOD says. 

Today we are like in the days of Noah.  Global wickedness is growing in unbelievably shocking ways.  The long-suffering LORD GOD ALMIGHTY is waiting until the appointed time to send JESUS to catch away HIS believers, just as HE waited in the days of Noah before unleashing flood waters. 

Until that appointed time, GOD in HIS long-suffering is waiting to unleash HIS wrath on the sinful world just as HE waited for Noah to complete his assignment of preaching to the wicked.  As Noah preached righteousness so we who believe and have come to GOD through JESUS are called witness of JESUS (Acts 1:8) and call people to repentance.

We need to tell others John 3:¹⁶ For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, that WHOSOEVER BELIEVES in HIM (JESUS) should not perish but have everlasting life. ³⁶ He that believes on the SON has everlasting life: and he that believes not the SON shall not see life; but the wrath of GOD (is already) abiding on him.

Romans 10:⁹ That if you will confess with your mouth the LORD JESUS and will believe in your heart that GOD has raised HIM from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰ For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. ¹³ For whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved.

Only GOD knows who will choose to believe, so let’s tell everyone we can.

Why?

But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration (HOLY SPIRIT) of the ALMIGHTY gives them understanding (Job 32:8).

(JESUS) The true light, which gives light to everyone (John 1:9 ESV)

Deuteronomy 30:¹¹ For this commandment which I command you this day, it is not hidden from you, neither is it far off.  ¹⁴ But the word is very near you, in your mouth, and in your heart, that you may do it.

Romans 1:¹⁹ Because that which may be known of GOD is manifest in them; for GOD has shewed it to them. ²⁰ For the invisible things of HIM from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and GODHEAD; so that they are without excuse:

Now if all know, why are not all saved?

Romans 10:⁹ ESV IF you confess with your mouth that JESUS is LORD (Master/ Ruler) and believe in your heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead, you will be saved.

There seems to be 2 qualifying conditions.

1-Confessing that JESUS is LORD (Master or Ruler) over you and the worlds.

2-believing in your heart (not just head knowledge or assent)

In the bible the word believe often means more than just mental assent to a fact.  There are exceptions to that rule for the devils believe there is a GOD and tremble (James 2:17).

Belief that saves says aloud (confesses) JESUS YOU are my LORD (Master) alluding to a desire to follow JESUS’ directions. 

Believing that saves also comes out of the heart indicating love.  We love HIM because HE 1^st loved us (1 John 4:19).

Belief that equals faith is defined in Hebrews 11:⁶ But without faith it is impossible to please HIM (GOD): for he that comes to GOD must (1) believe that HE is, and (2) (believe) that HE (GOD) is a rewarder of them that diligently seek HIM.

Saving faith trusts GOD.  It trusts that GOD is good, in control, has an eternal plan and loves us.

Now, although every person who comes into this world has been given light (understanding), some refuse it. 

Romans 1:¹⁸ they choose not to accept GOD’s true message (EASY)/ suppressing (Pushing away/ holding down) the truth (ESV).   ²¹ Because that, when they knew GOD, they glorified HIM not as GOD, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

2 Thessalonians 2:¹⁰ them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

John 3:¹⁶ For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten SON (JESUS), that whosoever believes in HIM (trusts JESUS’ saving work on the cross when HE died for their sins) should not perish, but have everlasting life. ³⁶ He that believes on (trusts in the work of) the SON has everlasting life: and he that believes not (refuses to believe and turns away from) the SON shall not see life; but the wrath of GOD abides/ remains on him.

The choice is ours.  I choose JESUS. How about you?

If you quickly glance around as you are driving you may not see that armadillo along the side of the road or what make of car just zoomed past you.  It is the same with the Word of GOD.

GOD has spoken to us through HIS prophets (moved by GOD the HOLY SPIRIT to write and speak 2 Peter 1:21), ^“whatsoever things were written (in Scripture) were written for our learning…” (Romans 15^:4⁾.

Although JESUS said “Man cannot live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of GOD (Matthew 4:4), many Christians don’t see the need to read the Bible for themselves.  Others read the Bible because they think they are supposed to but, don’t really expect to hear from GOD personally and speed read as if by osmosis they will absorb the riches contained within the eternal word of GOD.  But they wonder why the word of GOD doesn’t really speak to them.

GOD says that HE rewards them that diligently SEEK HIM (Hebrews 11:6, Jeremiah 29:13).  To seek HIM with all of our hearts we must THINK.  Note the context of what you are reading, the principle being spoken of, how it is spoken of in other places of the Bible and zero in on what the words show us.  I sometimes call this connecting the dots.

“Then Jesus said to them, “So every ·teacher of the law [scribe] who has ·been taught about [become a disciple of] the kingdom of heaven is like the ·owner [head] of a house. He brings out both new things and old things ·he has saved [from his treasure/storeroom; knowledge of the Old Testament provides insight into JESUS’ “new” message of the kingdom of GOD]” (Matthew 13:52 EXB).

Let’s look at an example of having to simply THINK (ponder on what is said) to know what the Bible is talking about. “JESUS despising the shame” (Hebrews 12:2).  Where was HE?  JESUS was enduring as HE was crucified on the cross.  Why did JESUS feel shame? 

Two of the reasons are:

1-Matthew 27:25 Soldiers stripped off JESUS’ clothing.  THINK what does that tell us?  JESUS hung naked where all who passed by could see HIM.  I don’t want people seeing me naked, that would bring me shame. How about you?

2-Hebrews 1:9 JESUS HATED sin, Isaiah 53:6 ALL SIN from Adam and Eve in the garden to the last sin after the uprising after the 1,000 year reign, was laid on JESUS as HE hung on the cross and paid for our sin.  “For the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

When I realize I have sinned, I feel SHAME.  JESUS felt the SHAME of all mankind, “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of GOD” (Romans 3:23).  The SHAME JESUS felt hanging there is beyond anything we can imagine.  The positive side of it is that HE understands how we feel after we have sinned, and HE cares. JESUS chose to suffer SHAME because HE loved us and wanted to save us and give us eternal life.

“For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS only begotten SON that whosoever believes in HIM will not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16), He that believes on the SON has everlasting life, and he that believes not the SON shall not see life, but the wrath of GOD abides (stays) on him” (John 3:36).

Do you seek to know GOD and HIS ways better?   Are you taking the time to zero in on words and asking GOD for answers?  I hope so for it make us stand in AWE of our Marvelous triune GOD.
