Something I overlooked

This morning reading about the last hours of JESUS before and during HIS crucifixion, I noticed something I had not picked up on yet, although I have read the account in John countless times.  There are several references that I knew well stating this was to fulfill scripture.  But in John 18:32 I saw something that I had totally overlooked.

John 18:31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take HIM, and judge HIM according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: 32 That the saying of JESUS might be fulfilled, which HE spoke, signifying what death HE should die.

Now I knew the Jews could not crucify people, they stoned them to death. But I never saw that the crucifixion was JESUS’ (NOT Old Testament) prophesy being fulfilled.  So, I went to check where JESUS prophesied HIS manner of death.

What I found were verses I knew, could quote to you and had even taught from but I had never seen them as JESUS prophesying how HE would die.  I also saw truth in them I hadn’t been able to grasp.

John 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto ME.33 This HE said, signifying what death HE should die.

I thought instantly of John 3 when early in JESUS ministry HE talked with a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews who came to JESUS by night wanting to know more but not wanting others to know he was seeking.  JESUS told Nicodemus a story he knew well.

Numbers 21:And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man (because he had sinned), when that man beheld (looked up to) the serpent of brass, he lived.

JESUS said to Nicodemus:

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the SON of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in HIM should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, that whosoever believeth in HIM (JESUS) should not perish but have everlasting life.

JESUS explained in those few verses to the noted Jewish teacher who HE (the SON of man) was, how to be born again, the reason one needed to born again and now I know JESUS also spoke of the manner of HIS death and not just HIS death.

Only those Jews in the wilderness who choose to believe the inconceivable word of GOD spoken by Moses that just looking at a brass snake would heal them and they would live and not die chose to look and were healed.  Any who thought it was crazy and didn’t look died because they refused to believe GOD and accept HIS offer to heal them.

It is the same with JESUS.  Those who will look to HIM receive everlasting life but those who refuse the wrath of GOD remains on them (John 3:36).

Remember IF you are a believer in the LORD JESUS CHRIST and have called on HIS name to save you (Romans 10:9-10, 13) you are saved and are a KING for GOD tells us in Revelation 1:5 from JESUS CHRIST, Who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the Prince of the kings of the earth. Unto HIM that loved us and washed us from our sins in HIS own blood, And has made us kings and priests unto GOD and HIS FATHER; to HIM be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

As a KING you can choose to search and find the delights of truth hidden in the Word of GOD for Proverbs 25:2 “It is the glory of GOD to conceal a thing: but the honor of KINGS (you) is to search out a matter.”

Why did JESUS feel shame?

Something seems left unsaid as I hear about JESUS’s crucifixion.  Why isn’t the anguish of having all sin laid on JESUS mentioned?

It is written that when healing physical problems JESUS literally FELT what it took to heal each one for virtue/power went out of HIM to bring healing.  This struck me forcefully as a young Christian reading through the Bible for the 1st time.

When I read, HE (JESUS) “was touched with the FEELING of our infirmities” (Hebrews 4:15) I thought, “HE doesn’t know what I go through with PMS.”  Immediately, I remembered or I should say (John 14:26) the HOLY SPIRIT reminded me a story of a woman with an issue of blood that I had read in the gospels. When she touched the hem of JESUS garment, JESUS actually felt the drain of power to heal her leave HIS body (Mark 5:30).  I realized at that moment “Yes, JESUS does know how I feel.”

That is why I am so perplexed at what is not said as to the cause of shame JESUS FELT on the cross and why HE despised it.

GOD hates sin: “Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on iniquity… (Habakkuk 1:13)

JESUS is GOD (John 1:1-3, 14) therefore JESUS also hates sin. With their awesome foreknowledge the GODHEAD knew before creating a choice creation (mankind) would sin. JESUS who hated sin therefore had taken counsel with GOD the FATHER and the HOLY SPIRIT and they agreed to a plan to cleanse mankind from sin before the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8) therefore before there was a man.  What was the purpose?  Romans 8:29 gives us a glimpse-  so that JESUS would be the first of many brethren.

Though JESUS hates sin it is written, “For HE (GOD the FATHER) made HIM (JESUS) to be sin for us, (HE) who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of GOD in HIM (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Surely HE (JESUS) bore our griefs and carried our sorrows: (Isaiah 53:4) the Lord laid on HIM (JESUS) the iniquity of us all (Isaiah 53:6) HE (GOD) shall see of the travail of HIS (JESUS) soul and shall be satisfied: by HIS (JESUS) knowledge shall MY righteous servant justify many; for HE shall bear their iniquities. (Isaiah 53:11).

When all the sin of mankind was laid on JESUS on the cross, HE experienced the shame of each of those sins and the guilt. Next to that even the horrendous pain of being nailed to the cross and even the shame of hanging naked pales. It wasn’t merely the shame of hanging on the cross naked and being mocked but the unimaginable shame our LORD JESUS must have felt for the sins laid on HIM.  It is written that it caused our LORD JESUS deep travail/ anguish (Isaiah 53:11).

HE didn’t have to so why did JESUS endure it?  For the JOY of what HE was achieving for us HE endured it all (Hebrews 12:2).  What an amazing Savior we have. Let’s just praise HIS name!

Pointing a finger

Pointing the finger

We often will point to an item or person to identify them to another.  The term pointing the finger is an idiom meaning to blame one and identify him.

Has the LORD ever spoken to you from HIS word, then instantly you are being tested in that very area?

It is as clear as if it happened yesterday, but it was years and years ago when I was a young believer in JESUS. I had been reading the Word of GOD and the LORD was speaking to me about judging others.

Isaiah 58:9    take away the yoke (my demands and expectations of others)

stop pointing the finger (judging others)

stop speaking emptiness (you don’t know all the details)

feed the hungry and clothe the naked (do what you can to help)

then (if you do this) you will call to the LORD and HE will answer

Isaiah 58:11 then the LORD will guide you continually…

Then I went to where I was reading in the New Testament and

Ephesians 4:31-32 let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice. be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as GOD for CHRIST’s sake forgave you.

It was a Sunday morning and as I was leaving for church, someone did something that really upset me and I filled up with anger, Looking back I found that in that situation

I had (unmet and probably unreasonable) expectations of the person

I did point my finger at him as being wrong

I spoke as if I knew why he did what he did (when I knew only in part)

I allowed anger to control me so I

I spoke out of turn.

In other words, I totally blew it. I completely failed the test.  I knew it, the moment I got in the car and left for church.  So confessed all the way there.

Then the sermon hit me square between the eyes.  The pastor began by saying, “When we feel angry, it is because we’ve gotten our eyes off of JESUS and tried to take control of the situation or person.

His words described me that morning.  I had been angry and pointed a finger at someone’s actions, even though I just read how I must stop that.  And now, three fingers were pointing back at me.  I was guilty.

You therefore have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things, (Romans 2:1).

The shame I felt through that conviction was awful and what I learned that morning has stayed with me down through the years.  Now when I feel the anger rising I do what the word tells me.  I run to the throne of grace for help in my time of need.  Cause I need help to release my anger to GOD (Hebrews 4:16).  And when I find myself wanting to point my finger at other, the HOLY SPIRIT (John 14:26) reminds me of Romans 2:1 which makes me stop and ask where am I guilty, LORD?

Funny thing is that when I choose to do things GOD’s way, that which HE tells us to do in HIS word, peace comes over me and I start thinking about and praising the LORD from whom all blessings flow (James 1:17).

Looking unto JESUS, the Author and Perfector of my faith,

Worried?

Our nation and the world seems to be a swirl of confusion plus most of us have at least one thing touching our lives that we have no control over. Yes, there are major things to be concerned about. So, what do we do?  Many choose to worry, and anxiety is at an all-time high, paralyzing many.

JESUS clearly said, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled, believe in GOD and believe in ME” John 14:1.

What does this one little verse say that we are doing when we are troubled?  Clearly it is saying we don’t believe GOD is going to handle it.

To worry insults GOD like a slap on the face. It is saying, “GOD, I don’t believe YOU are in control or doing things right.”

Yet because man looks on outward appearance it is easier to indulge in our emotions that cause worry and wallow in them rather than to release our concerns to GOD in prayer (Philippians 4:6-7) and choose in faith to trust the LORD even when we don’t see HIM at work and everything seems so wrong.

Most believers in JESUS that I know avoid sin with a passion.  But these same ones seem to think nothing about worrying or being anxious although its direct disobedience to GOD.  One gal recently said, “I don’t think of worry in that way.” (meaning as sin.)

Only if we see and confess worry as SIN, will we turn from it and learn to trust the eternal GOD and lean on HIM and not our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-7).

Seeing how the LORD has worked throughout time as recorded in scripture and claiming GOD’s promises in HIS word is what enables me to trust the only wise LORD GOD ALMIGHTY when things look dark and I can’t see what’s ahead.

JESUS asked, “Why call ME LORD (Master), LORD (Master) and don’t do the things that I say?” (Luke 6:46).

Bees

Getting stung by a bee is no fun and that is why bees really scare my husband Mac.  One day while at a celebration a bee landed on his Pepsi and crawled in to the can. When Mac went to take a drink the bee stung him and Mac’s mouth and tongue began to swell to the degree that he could barely breathe. His brother Pat ran and got Mac some Benadryl. Praise the LORD that after taking it the Benadryl the swelling of Mac’s mouth and tongue went down. The crisis was over.

Yet GOD had made bees for a good reason with good intent. Bee’s honey brings healing to people from allergies and many other afflictions as well as gives people sweetness and strength. The bee also cross pollinates fruit and vegetable flowers so plants can produce fruit. Without bees there is no productivity, there might be pretty flowers on the plants but no pumpkins, no peaches.

Many years ago when I read Mark 1:3 (JESUS said) “… that is why I came…”

I wondered so asked “Heavenly FATHER I look to YOU for it is from YOU all things flow (James 1:17).  I’m wondering why am I here? LORD? YOU do nothing without a cause (Ezekiel 14:23) YOU have made everything according to YOUR design with definite purpose in mind (Ephesians 1:11, 2:10) and YOU have equipped and assigned work to each of your creatures for the good of others (I Corinthians 12:7).

Even the bees have a calling. They do not know what they are doing but their making honey brings healing and gives sweetness and the bee’s gathering nectar also has the side effect of cross pollination, so we get watermelons and zucchini. YOU made the bee for a reason and have given the bee purpose and meaning. What about me LORD? What is my purpose, what is my meaning for today?

Please lead me and use me today. As YOU use the little bee to bring healing, or strength, or sweetness, or build up another so that he can produce the fruit YOU made for him to produce, flow through me today to touch others I ask that in the name of JESUS.

Then one day as I read in HIS word the Bible the LORD spoke to me through HIS word and I knew what my purpose at least for the time being was.  Through Isaiah 50:4-5 GOD spoke to me and said that HE would waken my ears to hear so I would have a word in season for those who are weary.  Therefore I share with you what HE shares with me through HIS word the Bible (Isaiah 8:20).

You have a purpose too. If you don’t know what it is ask the LORD and if you are willing to do what HE wants HE will lead you in the way you should choose to go (Psalm 25:12, John 7:17, James 1:5-8).

Looking unto JESUS, the Author and Perfecter of my faith (Hebrews 12:2).

Why does GOD allow it?

When I was a girl there was a term we used if someone took back something they had given another as a gift.  It was colorful but not very nice and definitely not politically correct for me to use so let me just say GOD who choose to give man the ability to choose when HE made man in HIS image, declared that HE does NOT take back that which HE has once given (Romans 11:29). In other words, HE does not infringe on our ability to choose.

A gal recently said to me “When “thus and so happened” I stopped going to church- for how could GOD allow that to happen?”

Why do terrible things happen? Some things happen as a consequence of our actions; some things we consider terrible are things GOD is using to mature/discipling HIS children (James 1:2-4, 2 Corinthians 4:15-18, Hebrews 12:5-7, 10-11) while placing us when we need to be to do HIS will (Genesis 50:20).

When GOD warned man not to do something HE told man some of what would occur if man acted in that way. Man was told enough to do what was right but was not given the whole picture (Deuteronomy 29:29).

Was GOD just making an impulsive rule when HE set the prohibition? Was HE just being whimsical when HE gave us the instructions within HIS Word the Bible?  Let’s just look at scripture little deeper for I believe GOD was acting in HIS great wisdom and doing great deal more than what we might suppose.

When in the counsel of heaven of GOD the FATHER, GOD the Word (Son/ JESUS John 1:1-4, 14)) and GOD the HOLY SPIRIT (Genesis 1:2) it was decided to make mankind in “OUR (GOD’s)” image it was also decided that mankind would be given authority/ dominion over the fish of the sea and the fowl of the air and over all the earth and everything that walks and creeps on the earth (Genesis 1:26).

GOD who choose to give man the ability to choose when HE made man in HIS image, declared that HE does NOT take back what HE has once given (Romans 11:29). In other words, HE does not infringe on our ability to choose or take that gift away.

But from being ruler over his world something happened when man chose to listen to the snake (devil Revelation 20:2) instead of his Maker the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY.

Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? (Romans 6:16 NLT).

When man chose to obey the devil, man went from being ruler to being a slave to the devil and turned over his authority/ dominion of the earth to the devil and his followers (evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 NLT).

“You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devilthe commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey GOD. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to GOD’s anger, just like everyone else. (Ephesians 2:2-3 NLT).

We know that we are children of GOD and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one (1 John 5:19 NLT).

Prior to HIS public ministry JESUS was severely tempted by the devil/ Satan for 40 days. At one point the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain, showed to JESUS all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.  “And the devil said unto JESUS, All this power will I give YOU, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.  If YOU therefore wilt worship me, all shall be YOURS’ (Luke 4:5-6).

Now JESUS who knew all things did not deny that that were the devil’s to give. But JESUS refused the devil’s offer by saying, “Get behind me Satan for it is written you shall worship the LORD your GOD, and HIM only shalt you serve” (Luke 4:7).

Now the devil didn’t make man do anything.  What he did and does is snidely whisper lies and get man to believe him instead of GOD.  Therefore, it is evident that by listening and obey the voice of the devil mankind became a slave to the devil and by default turned the dominion GOD had given him over to the devil.

The same is true today, believing the snide lies of the evil one over GOD’s injunctions leads us into sin/disobedience and blindness and we lose our freedom.  That does not mean a believer loses her salvation for she when she believed was sealed with the HOLY SPIRIT of promise (Ephesians 1:13-14) until the day of redemption/ rapture (Ephesians 4:30) when all believers in JESUS will go through the roaring fire of the judgment seat of CHRIST (Bema seat-Greek// Romans 14:10, 2 Corinthians 5:10). This is NOT the white throne judgment of Revelation 20 which occurs 1,007 years later.  As we are told only those dead (Revelation 20:12) in sin and trespasses- those not cleansed by blood of JESUS will be there.

Some believers in JESUS come out of the fire of the Bema seat of CHRIST and enter into heaven with rewards. Other believers in JESUS (cleansed by the blood of CHRIST) will enter heaven as out of a roaring fire smelling like smoke (1 Corinthians 3:10-15) and GOD will have to wipe their tears away (Isaiah 25:8). But that will be the natural consequence of their own choices.

So why do bad things happen?  GOD is not behind the evil that is being forcefully pushed and propagated in our world today., The devil is behind it.  GOD intends to stop not just the evil but the devil and teach angels as well. (Colossians 2:15, Ephesians 3:10).

That is why GOD sent HIS only begotten SON what whosoever believes in HIM will not perish but have eternal life…HE that believes on the SON has everlasting life but he that believes not the SON shall not see life; but the wrath of GOD abides (stays) on him (John 3:16, 36).

GOD who was, and is, and is to come is still good, wise and the powerful Sovereign over HIS creation. Remember HIS ways are not our ways and HIS thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9) HIS purposes will come to be and HE shall accomplish all that HE has determined to get rid of all wrong and evil will NOT arise again (Nahum 1:9).  Praise HIS name.

3/ 16

Today is 3/16. the most famous 3/16 is John 3:16 For GOD so loved the world that HE sent HIS only begotten SON that whosoever believes in HIM will not perish but have eternal live.

another fine 3/16 is 1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of GOD, because HE (JESUS) laid down HIS life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

So if you hear HIS voice today, do not harden your heart (don’t be stubborn) Hebrews 3:7-8. Listen and receive JESUS as your Savior.

The LORD has seemed so near throughout our 6 week study “To know and Pray GOD’s nature” and now going into the conclusion-“Being made in GOD’s image and walking in the SPIRIT”, the LORD is richly opening the Word. I think our triune GOD is pleased that we are considering HE HIMSELF.

Choices

My son got 2 very young kittens a few weeks back. Knowing that after they ate they would have to do their business somewhere, we got two litter boxes.  We did not know what we know now. The kittens did not know what litter boxes were and became frightened when we would place them in one.  To cut down on the mess, I asked the LORD what to do. Then thought to put down cardboard with liter on it in the spots the kittens favored going (which is in my bedroom, under my bed). They are getting better on doing their business on the litter, but I still don’t know how to graduate them to the litter boxes.

One of so many things I love about the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY is that HE knows all things (John 16:30), not just things past and present but also future. That simple mind-boggling fact helps me accept so much I cannot grasp.

GOD in three persons makes up the GODHEAD (Matthew 28:19) and in the counsels of heaven HE chose to make mankind to fellowship with HIM.  HE chose to make them in HIS image (Genesis 1:26).  Part of that image is the ability to make choices. Yet GOD did not make man to be in control.

Many scripture texts show that GOD allows men to do wrong to show us what is in us and why we need a Savior. Each person is always responsible for their own choices and choices have consequences. Often the MOST HIGH allows wicked men to do wrong.  But as Genesis 50:20 (and many other texts) show when GOD allows men to do wrong with evil intent, GOD has pre-planned to use their actions for an end result of good to those who love HIM (Romans 8:28).  There is always a plan in place (see 2 Corinthians 4:15-18) and GOD is always in control (Ephesians 1:11).

In making man with the ability to choose that meant they could either accept and love HIM or reject HIM.  HE knew before creation which would do what.  Yet for GOD to give the ability to choose meant HE had to 1st choose to allow HIMSELF to selectively suffer certain things because of mankind’s choices while GOD HIMSELF maintained complete Sovereign control. GOD is never at man’s mercy.

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT is said to grieve at times because of our actions (Ephesians 4:30). HE is holy and anything unholy grieves HIM. GOD the SON, our LORD JESUS, consented and chose to suffer much on earth from humiliation to carrying all the punishment for the sins of mankind in torture on the cross of Calvary.  GOD the FATHER suffered as HE laid HIS wrath for sin on HIS beloved SON.  HE did it out of HIS love for mankind.  But our triune GOD chose to do that because HE wanted us.

“GOD devised means, that HIS banished be not expelled from HIM” (2 Samuel 14:14).

Interestingly, we find that GOD preset (past tense) the times and places (Acts 17:26) thereby set the stage where we make our choices.  In HIS astounding foreknowledge HE knew what choices would be made and synchronized it all.  It’s beyond amazing, just blows my mind thinking of it.

Design and color

HIS (the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY’s) work is honorable and glorious: and HIS

righteousness endures forever (Psalm 111:3).

In wisdom GOD created all things.  HE demonstrated such a flair for beauty, design, a love of color and variety in HIS creation of HE creatures.  When I saw this little bird today I thought of a Bible phrase… “even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these” (Matthew 6:29).  The phrase literally speaks of GOD clothing flowers of the field but the principle applies to all that HE has made. The LORD dressed this little bird beautifully, wouldn’t you agree?

The LORD GOD does all things well.
