Still Drinking Milk?

This is my granddaughter, Zarai when she was just a baby in her daddy’s arms and drinking her milk to get the nourishment she needed to grow. Just like a baby needs milk to grow bigger and stronger, new Christians need to read the Bible to grow. But there comes a time when milk isn’t enough.

I Peter 2:2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation

Since GOD has chosen to reveal spiritual truth through HIS creation, an article about milk struck me forcefully. The article explained why some develop problems when drinking milk or eating milk products. It said that 75% of adults worldwide cannot digest milk. The reason is that at age 3 (for most people) the enzyme necessary for digesting milk quits being produced by the body. I got to thinking about that and was amazed when a verse came to mind.

Hebrews 5:11-14 About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

A dull knife won’t cut meat and in the same way if you are dull of hearing you won’t grasp what is being said. Only when we use what we learn in the Bible (little by little a step at a time) are we enabled to learn more.  But we lose our grasp even on what we think we have learned if we don’t apply it in our lives (Mark 4:23-25).  Therefore, we need to keep hearing the same basics over and over, and over again.

We grow in understanding not just by hearing but by using what know. The power to truly understand/ discern and distinguish what is right and wrong (what we should and should not do) comes only by constantly using the things we have already learned in the Bible.

You can pretty well guess the physical age of people by how they look, while someone’s spiritual age is revealed more by their choices.

Do you want to grow in grace and in your knowledge of GOD our FATHER and the LORD JESUS CHRIST? Then practice those things you have already heard in GOD’s Word. By doing so you are sharpened and become able to learn more.

Are you, am I eating meat or are we still drinking milk?

Looking unto JESUS
